Tidbits...

All right, so I got my camera cord again finally. Here are a couple FO's:

Here's that halter I made for my cousin Haley, from the book Speed Knitting:

I took this idea of a scarf composed from two different patterns, from a person on LJ. It didn't turn out as well as I'd have liked, and I made the hearts differently. I think if I made the scarf again, I'd just leave the original pattern and not include the heart. I used leftover yarn from the blanket I made Ella a year ago:

Close-up of the heart pattern:

This is a terrible example because I flew through it, but I use the same pattern now for every dishcloth because I just love it:

And finally, this is the second attempt at a Slytherin wristband for Dan (see a previous entry for the first). I made it SO long ago, like probably last November, and it's pretty lived-in. Dan came up with the snake pattern:

Lately...

I've been doing lots of small projects - wristwarmers with thinner yarn for Mom and a co-worker, dishcloths... Simple things. I decided to see what the Horde symbol would look like on size 5 needles.

I also have Hufflepuff-style wristwarmer and glove. Yes. One of each. I made the glove and then decided working on those stupid fingers was way too much work. I did a pretty bad job on them out of impatience and frustration. But the wristwarmer looks good. I planned on making the mate with black as the main color, but I don't want them to look too much like bumblebee gloves. I'll probably just leave them partnerless and make Horde wristwarmers for both Dan and myself.

And finally... I bought a book on afghans and am currently making slow-but-nearly-steady progress on Dan's mom's afghan that she was supposed to get for Christmas. I had to scrap my very messy progress on the previous attempt, but I think it's starting to take shape well.

Couple small things

So I finally got around to knitting that hat for myself, using the same pattern as for Dan's hat. It's a tiny bit short, but I just shorten the brim when I wear it. Nice and snug, too. A bit itchy, but it's wool.

I also tried to knit a small toy kitty for Dan, but it didn't turn out like a thought it would. The feet suck because I apparently am awful at sewing using yarn. But Dan and Nero loved it.

Knitted halter

V-Neck Halter from Trendy Knit Tops by Joyce M. Wu

Yarn: Lion Brand Homespun in Colonial

Needle: Clover Bamboo Size 11 (8mm) circ

Notes: I did the strap in garter and omitted the crochet neckline, which effectively made it more of a scoop-neck. I've heard that learning simple crochet is easy, but it was 1am and I wanted to finish it! I plan on making another as this took me about 8 or so hours to make.

What I'll change:

  • It's too short. It seemed long enough when I compared it to regular camisoles of mine, but as it was still on the needle I couldn't try it on. I have also been thinking of undoing the cast-on and adding some length. I just need to motivate myself.

  • The ribbing sucks and is poofy. I will either change it to a 1x1 ribbing or make sure to make it tighter. If I make it longer I can try to fix the ribbing.

  • I'll probably find a better alternative to the crochet neckline or simply take the time to learn how to crochet. Depends on how impatient I'm feeling. If I learn how to crochet or decide on a neckline, I'll post pics of the edited version.

Mom's birthday

Lately I've been working on simple small things, like coasters and washcloths. Mom mentioned awhile back that she thought it would be cool if I knitted a set of coasters for her. I have a bunch of Red Heart yarn that I never use, but I like the colors, so I made a set of four out of it. It was also her birthday on Sunday, and she wanted some armwarmers. I looked around and found a pattern that I thought was suitable. She wanted a simple pattern, but I didn't want to knit just garter or just stockinette. The pattern is called One-Day Wristwarmers. I did them on size 9 DPNs in Bernat Berella 4.
Close up of the ribbing: The thumb hole, which was so simple and easy and turned out so perfectly:

I also made a couple headbands out of some yarn I bought off of knitpicks. The first one followed the pattern I found in terms of width, but I made the back strap thin, but it was still too much for my fine hair. So this one I cut the stitches on either side of the lace pattern way down, and this is what I came up with:

I'm currently working on gloves with a simple lace pattern. I'll post pics of them when I finish!
